Here’s a little comparison.
The Samsung Galaxy S II or S2 is most likely one of the biggest rivals of the iPhone 4S (aside from the upcoming Nexus Prime), so we created a short article to compare Apple’s new smartphone and Samsung’s biggest selling phone to date.
Power:
The Samsung Galaxy S II or S2 is powered by ARM Cortex A9 Exynos dual-core 1.2GHz processor while the iPhone 4S features the A5 chip, the same dual-core processor used by the iPad 2. When it comes to speed, both are competitive — but comparing the two processors is like comparing the iOS and Android with TouchWiz too because the speed of the phone also depends on optimization implemented.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 features an 8-megapixel camera with single LED flash, while the iPhone 4S also features the 8-megapixel camera — but Apple is claiming that the iPhone 4S is better than “other smartphones” when it comes to camera quality because they implemented camera technologies like the Video stabilization courtesy of the accelerometer and better noise cancellation. The Samsung Galaxy S II and the iPhone 4S can shoot HD videos of up to 1080p.
Secondary Camera:
The iPhone 4S is equipped with VGA front-facing camera while the Samsung Galaxy S II is sporting 2-megapixel secondary camera. The iPhone 4S supports video calling with the native FaceTime video call app and other apps like Skype and Tango, while the Samsung Galaxy S II supports Google Talk with Video (on Gingerbread 2.3.4 operating system) and other third-party apps available in the Android market.
On-board storage:
The Samsung Galaxy S II supports MicroSD card slot, so with the 16GB model only, a user can upgrade the phone’s storage to 48GB. Meanwhile, Apple is offering three iPhone 4S models, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. The iPhone 4S doesn’t support MicroSD card slot.
Data speed:
The iPhone 4S is the fastest iPhone ever, not only in the processor department, but also on data connectivity. According to Apple, the iPhone 4S supports up to 14.4Mbps download, and 5.8Mbps up, while the Samsung Galaxy S2 is an HSPA+ ready phone with 21Mbps download speed and 5.76Mbps upload. The iPhone 4S is a CDMA/GSM phone or a world phone, while Samsung is offering GSM and CDMA Galaxy S II.
Display:
The iPhone 4S sports 3.5-inch screen, with the Retina Display or 960 x 640 pixel resolution at 326 ppi, while the Samsung Galaxy S II boasts 4.3-inch (4.52 for the Sprint Epic 4G Touch and T-Mobile USA’s Galaxy S II) Super AMOLED Plus screen technology. Samsung Galaxy S II’s screen sports 217 ppi (for the 4.3-inch screen and 206 ppi for the 4.52-inch screen) with the resolution of 480 x 800. The iPhone 4S sports theoretically crisper image, but the S II’s Super AMOLED Plus is just so gorgeous.
Connectors, buttons etc:
The Samsung Galaxy S II charges battery, syncs with PC or Mac and mirror screen to TV or monitor with the MHL or Mobile High Definition Link technology, compatible with Micro USB but better because some devices can charge the S II while mirroring or syncing. Meanwhile, the iPhone 4S is sporting Apple’s own 30-pin dock connector compatible with Apple peripherals and other third-party made products only.
The Samsung Galaxy S II and iPhone 4S are equipped with 3.5 mm headphone jack and both have built-in microphone and noise cancellation technology.
Samsung is offering two Galaxy S II variants, one with the physical home button (sold outside of US), and the variants (Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile) with the capacitive buttons that are required by the Android operating system. The Samsung Galaxy S II and the iPhone 4S also have on and off button for the phones’ sleep or wake mode.
Talk Time, internet time, battery life:
The Samsung Galaxy S II (global version) supports up to 710 hours on 2G and 610 hours on 3G standby time, talk time of 18 hours and 20 min max on 2G and 8 hours 40 min on 3G and 5 to 6 hours with the realtime active usage. Meanwhile, the iPhone 4S supports up to 200 hours on standby on 3G, talk time of 8 hours on 3G and 14 hours on 2G GSM, and supports internet use of up to 6 hours on 3G or 9 hours max on Wi-Fi.
Price:
The Samsung Galaxy S II 16GB model sports the tag price of Rs.28000/- , while the iPhone 4S with 16GB will use the tag price of $199.99. Apple is offering two other models, the 32GB for $299.99 and 64GB for $399.99. 32GB Samsung Galaxy S II is not yet available.
